Whitley Bay, United Kingdom — The FirstLan School for Young Authors officially opened its doors at St. Paul’s Church.

On September 6, 2025, the FirstLan School for Young Authors officially opened its doors at St. Paul’s Church in Whitley Bay. The new educational and cultural initiative was founded with the support of London Arts & Talents, aiming to nurture the next generation of young writers, poets, and storytellers.
The atmosphere of the opening day was filled with warmth, curiosity, and creative energy. Parents, teachers, and local community members came together to celebrate the launch of a unique space where children can not only learn the art of writing but also find their own voice. The ceremony began with welcoming speeches from the founders of the project, followed by a reading of children’s poems, an art exhibition, and a creative workshop.
The FirstLan School was created for children aged 8–16 who are passionate about literature, storytelling, and imagination. Its educational program is based on a combination of classical literary education and modern creative practices. Students learn to build narratives, develop characters, and express emotions through language — in English and other languages they speak at home.
Classes are held in a cozy and inspiring environment at St. Paul’s Church — a historical building that has now become a home for creativity and collaboration. Lessons are conducted by writers, editors, and teachers who are passionate about helping young people unlock their inner potential. Each student is encouraged to write freely, experiment with form, and discover the joy of artistic expression.
A distinctive feature of the school is its international approach. Thanks to the partnership with London Arts & Talents, young writers from Whitley Bay will be able to take part in international competitions, cultural exchanges, and joint publications with their peers from other countries. The school’s bilingual and multicultural vision allows every child to feel that their story matters — no matter what language it’s written in.
The FirstLan program includes:
— Creative writing classes and storytelling workshops
— Weekly reading clubs and discussions of classic and modern literature
— Artistic projects combining literature and visual arts
— Opportunities for publication in the annual FirstLan Anthology of Young Authors
— International collaborations through the LAT creative community
The school’s founders believe that literature is not just about words — it’s about understanding the world and oneself. Through writing, children learn empathy, critical thinking, and imagination. “Our goal,” said the founder, “is to give young people confidence in their creative voice. Every story matters — and every story deserves to be told.”
🌿 The FirstLan School for Young Authors is not only an educational project — it’s a cultural initiative that unites families, teachers, and communities around the idea of creativity as a form of connection and hope.
Its first academic year begins in autumn 2025, and the enrollment for new students remains open.
